CRPP Demands Afegbua’s Sack, Accuses Edo Govt of Intolerance
By Elvis Omoregie
The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has called for the dismissal of Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, accusing him of failing to effectively manage the image of the state government and promoting what it described as an intolerant attitude toward opposition voices.
In a statement dated June 12, 2026, and signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Samson Isibor, and National Secretary, Hon. Nka A. Waribe, the coalition reacted to a recent press conference addressed by Afegbua, during which he reportedly criticized the opposition group.
The CRPP described the commissioner’s remarks as unbecoming of a public official, alleging that he has consistently resorted to attacks against individuals and groups that express dissenting views on the performance of the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
According to the coalition, Afegbua has failed to approach his responsibilities as the government's chief image maker with the level of professionalism required of the office, choosing instead to engage in political confrontations and public exchanges with opposition figures.
The group also dismissed claims that opposition parties were seeking financial inducements from the government, insisting that its members remained committed to holding public office holders accountable in the interest of Edo residents.
The statement further accused the commissioner of inconsistency, recalling his criticism of the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki before his appointment into the current government.
The coalition maintained that continued verbal attacks on opposition groups would only damage the public image of the Okpebholo administration and reinforce perceptions that the government is intolerant of criticism.
CRPP challenged the commissioner to conduct an independent assessment of public opinion across the state, particularly on issues of security, employment and food production, arguing that the outcome would reflect widespread dissatisfaction among residents.
At the same time, the coalition urged the commissioner to emulate what it described as the diplomatic and professional approach of former Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Paul Ohonbamu, whom it commended for maintaining cordial relations with stakeholders while effectively communicating government policies.
The opposition coalition reiterated its demand for Afegbua’s removal from office, insisting that the government requires a spokesperson capable of building public confidence and fostering constructive engagement rather than deepening political divisions.
The statement concluded with a call for leadership committed to the welfare of citizens and the promotion of democratic values in Edo State and Nigeria at large.
