Ohanaeze bans Ezeigbo, Igwe titles outside igboland, launches voter mobilisation drive

By Elvis Omoregie, Benin  The Edo State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has prohibited the use of unauthorised traditional titles such as Ezeigbo, Ezendigbo, Igwe and other monarchical designations outside recognised traditional institutions in Igboland, describing the practice as culturally invalid and contrary to established directives Speaking at a press conference in Benin City, the State Secretary of the organisation, Emmanuel Ofoedu, said the decision followed a resolution adopted at the General Assembly of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide on April 9, 2026, and applies to Igbo communities in Edo State, across Nigeria and in the Diaspora. NBM Of Africa Declares Global 7-Day Fasting, Prayer Over Insecurity, Abducted Oyo Pupils

By Elvis Omoregie  Concerned by the worsening state of insecurity across the country, the foremost Pan-African and humanitarian Organisation, NBM of Africa Worldwide, has declared a seven-day fasting and prayer programme for the safe release of more than 45 pupils and teachers reportedly abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Worldwide President of the movement, Dr. Charles Chimezie (Ph.D), who expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of kidnapping, violent crimes and attacks on innocent citizens in various parts of the country. According to the statement, the seven-day fasting and prayer programme will be observed by members of the organisation across the globe as a demonstration of solidarity with the affected families and communities, as well as a call for divine intervention in the affairs of the nation. By Elvis Omoregie A socio-cultural group, Aiguobasinmwin Movement Worldwide, has accused Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, of failing to fulfil his campaign promise to revive and restore the historic Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre in Benin City, warning that the iconic monument is gradually deteriorating into what it described as "a forest in the heart of the city." The group, in a statement signed by its President, Iyamu Osaro Culture, Secretary General, Osayuki-Osa Benson, and Diaspora Coordinator, Monday Ohuimumwen, JP, expressed concern over the continued neglect of the facility, which it said remains one of the most significant cultural and historical assets in Edo State. According to the group, Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre is a national monument built during the military era and subsequently donated to the Edo State Government.
