Peaceful Edo LG Election Reflects Voters' Confidence in Democracy — Eribo

Hon. Crosby Eribo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, has expressed confidence that Saturday's local government election will strengthen grassroots governance and deepen democratic participation across the state.

Speaking with journalists shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 20, Ward 6, in Egor, Eribo described the council poll as a vital pillar of democratic governance, stressing the importance of sustained citizens' participation in the electoral process.

He urged political parties, their supporters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise, noting that a credible, transparent and violence-free election would further strengthen public confidence in democratic institutions.

According to him, the voting process at his polling unit was peaceful, orderly and well coordinated, with an encouraging turnout of voters who came out to exercise their civic responsibility.

Eribo commended officials of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) for the seamless conduct of the exercise, saying the orderly process reflected the commission's level of preparedness for the election.

He also lauded security agencies for maintaining law and order at polling centres, noting that their professionalism and visible presence contributed significantly to the peaceful atmosphere recorded during the exercise.

Expressing optimism about the outcome of the election, the APC stalwart said his party was well positioned for victory, attributing its confidence to sustained grassroots engagement and what he described as the fulfilment of campaign promises.

"Our expectation is clear—we are confident of victory because the APC has remained close to the people and has fulfilled its promises," Eribo said.

Ologbo Traditional Leadership: Chief Iyase Rejects Purported Installation of Olare-Aja

By Elvis Omoregie  The Okao Nore-Guae overseeing Ologbo, Ehor and Okhuoromi communities in Edo State, Chief Emma Iyase, has warned against what he described as efforts to establish a parallel traditional authority in Ologbo, rejecting the reported installation of Pa Johnson Obubu Itoto as the Olare-Aja of the community. Speaking on the development, Chief Iyase said the installation, reportedly carried out on May 30, 2026, was unknown to Benin customs and traditions and constituted a violation of the recognized traditional authority structure of the Benin Kingdom.
