The Edo State Government has appointed entrepreneur and community development advocate, Iyamu Osaro Destiny, as Chairman of the Edo State Consumer Protection Committee, in a move aimed at strengthening consumer rights, institutional accountability and service delivery across the state.
The appointment, approved by Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, was announced in a government statement dated July 13, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq.
According to the statement, the appointment underscores the administration's commitment to building strong institutions that protect the interests of consumers while promoting transparency and effective governance across the state.
The government described Iyamu as an accomplished entrepreneur, empowerment advocate and community leader with a longstanding commitment to justice, accountability and equal rights. It noted that his experience in public engagement and leadership positioned him to drive the committee's mandate of safeguarding consumer interests.
Beyond his entrepreneurial background, the statement highlighted Iyamu's contributions to public discourse through his published works on good governance and ethical leadership, describing him as a prolific author committed to responsible public service.
The government further credited the new chairman with a proven ability to mobilise human and material resources, foster community participation and build consensus around development initiatives. He is also the Founder and President of the Aiguobasinmwin Movement Worldwide and has served in several leadership capacities.
