Edo LG Election: CRPP Challenges Afegbua's Claims, Demands Evidence of CNPP, IPAC Members

The Conference of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has renewed its criticism of the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Prince Kassim Afegbua, accusing him of sidestepping concerns over the credibility of the July 11 local government election and resorting to personal attacks against the coalition.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Samson Isibor, and Secretary, Hon. Nkama Waribe, the coalition described the commissioner's recent remarks as provocative and an attempt to divert public attention from what it termed the substantive issues surrounding the conduct and outcome of the election.

The CRPP also disputed Afegbua's claim that he was once a member of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), insisting that he had never belonged to either organisation since their inception.

According to the Conference, membership of both CNPP and IPAC is restricted to chairmen of registered political parties or their duly accredited representatives. It argued that Afegbua was never elected or appointed chairman of any registered political party and therefore could not have qualified for membership of either body.

The Conference challenged the commissioner to produce documentary evidence to substantiate his claim of belonging to CNPP or IPAC, maintaining that public officials should be able to support their public statements with verifiable facts.

CRPP further alleged that, rather than addressing its concerns over what it described as the "manufactured" results of the July 11 local government election, the commissioner chose to launch personal attacks on the coalition.

"We expected the Commissioner to address the fundamental issues we raised concerning the credibility of the local government election instead of engaging in personal attacks. Resorting to insults does not answer the serious questions surrounding the election," the statement said.

The Conference maintained that it would not be deterred by the commissioner's remarks, stressing that democratic governance requires public office holders to respond to criticism with facts, transparency and accountability.

CRPP also renewed its call for Afegbua to be relieved of his appointment, alleging that he had failed to effectively promote the policies and programmes of the Edo State Government and had instead allowed personal interests to overshadow the responsibilities of his office.

The Conference urged government officials to embrace constructive engagement on matters of public interest, insisting that responsible communication, accountability and openness remain essential to strengthening democratic governance and public confidence in the electoral process.

Ologbo Traditional Leadership: Chief Iyase Rejects Purported Installation of Olare-Aja

By Elvis Omoregie  The Okao Nore-Guae overseeing Ologbo, Ehor and Okhuoromi communities in Edo State, Chief Emma Iyase, has warned against what he described as efforts to establish a parallel traditional authority in Ologbo, rejecting the reported installation of Pa Johnson Obubu Itoto as the Olare-Aja of the community. Speaking on the development, Chief Iyase said the installation, reportedly carried out on May 30, 2026, was unknown to Benin customs and traditions and constituted a violation of the recognized traditional authority structure of the Benin Kingdom.
