VGN Strengthens Community Security as Edokpolo Unit Is Inaugurated in Edo

BENIN — The Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, has further strengthened community-based security efforts in Edo State with the inauguration of the Edokpolo Unit, as stakeholders called for stronger collaboration in addressing security challenges at the grassroots level.
The inauguration ceremony, held on June 28, 2016, drew dignitaries and security stakeholders from different sectors, highlighting the growing role of community participation in promoting peace and security.
Speaking during the event, the State Commandant of VGN, Amb. Dr. Segun Imafidon, formally inaugurated the unit and charged members to remain disciplined, dedicated and committed in the discharge of their duties to the community.
The newly inaugurated Unit Commandant of Edokpolo, Inoyogiere Payor, also assumed leadership of the unit during the ceremony.
Among dignitaries present were a representative from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Edo State Government; Amb. Oduma Richard, a patron of VGN; a representative of the Centre for Moral Vault and Justice; Hon. Comr. Inegbenehi Iziegbe Sylvester, Convener of the recently concluded Security Town Hall Meeting; Dr. Louis Oboh, Founder of Edo State Security Network; and Ewamade Frank, the Odionwere of the community.
One of the high points of the event was the presentation of the centre for operations. The State Commandant first presented the operational centre to the Odionwere, Ewamade Frank, who in turn handed it over to the newly inaugurated Unit Commandant, Inoyogiere Payor, symbolizing community support and confidence in the new security structure.
The climax of the event was the presentation of a security communiqué to the State Commandant by Hon. Comr. Inegbenehi Iziegbe Sylvester, with emphasis on strengthening partnerships and enhancing proactive measures to tackle security concerns at the community level.
The inauguration is expected to further boost local security efforts and encourage stronger collaboration among residents and relevant stakeholders in safeguarding lives and property across Edo State.
