Alleged Abduction of Elderly Woman Deepens Family's Fear Over Long-Running Marriage Dispute

By Our Reporter

Fresh concerns have emerged over the safety of the family of Mr. Omisade Kayode Micheal following the alleged abduction of his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Yinka Micheal, on June 17, 2026 by suspected gunmen reportedly linked to a protracted family dispute arising from his marriage.

Family members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that the dispute dated back several years after Mr. Micheal married Mrs. Bisola Rukayat Micheal against the wishes of her stepfather, Alhaji Azeez Ogunbode, a prominent Islamic cleric and senior figure in the Islamic Community in Nigeria,

According to the family, Alhaji Ogunbode opposed the marriage on the grounds that another man had allegedly paid a bride price for Bisola while she was still a teenager, in line with Islamic customs.

The disagreement, they claimed, subsequently escalated into a prolonged conflict involving legal actions, threats and intimidation.

Sources disclosed that after returning to Nigeria from South Africa, Mr. Micheal was served with court documents relating to the dispute.

They further alleged that he later relocated to the United Kingdom, after which his mother reportedly began receiving threatening telephone calls from unidentified persons.

The callers, according to relatives, allegedly claimed to know Mr. Micheal's whereabouts and warned that Mrs. Micheal could suffer consequences if her son failed to return to Nigeria to face prosecution.

Family members said the elderly woman informed her son about the threats before communication with him was reportedly lost in August 2023. Since then, they said, efforts to establish contact with him have been unsuccessful.

Adding another layer to the controversy, relatives recalled that Mr. Micheal survived a shooting attack during the naming ceremony of his daughter, Hannah Micheal, in Ogun State on April 14, 2009.

They alleged that the attack was carried out by individuals believed to be students of an Islamic school linked to Alhaji Ogunbode.

The family further claimed that despite what they described as "strong evidence," no arrests were made and no suspects were prosecuted in connection with the incident.

The situation, however, took a more alarming turn with reports that Mrs. Elizabeth Micheal was recently abducted by persons allegedly acting on behalf of interests connected to the long-standing dispute at about 2:00 am

Relatives insisted that the alleged abduction was intended to intimidate the family and compel them to reveal the whereabouts of Micheal.

They also expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the matter by the law enforcement authorities, alleging that previous complaints made to security agencies had yielded little result.

"The family has completely lost confidence in the ability of the police to protect them. What happened in 2009 was never properly resolved, and now an elderly woman has disappeared", one source said

The relatives maintained that the alleged disappearance of Mrs. Micheal has reinforced fears that pressure is being mounted on the family to disclose Micheal's location.

They further expressed concern that any attempt by him to return to Nigeria could expose him to danger, citing what they described as a pattern of threats and intimidation over the years.

Speaking to our Correspondent, a family source who simply identified himself as David over security reasons, revealed that during the abduction of Mrs. Elizabeth Yinka Michael, he over heard her abductors saying "since your son (Omisade) has refused to come back to Nigeria, you (Mrs. Elizabeth), will represent him in grave with time. The Police cannot help you"

Efforts to obtain comments from Alhaji Ogunbode were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

However, a source within the Lagos State Police Command, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to comment on the matter, confirmed that Mrs. Elizabeth Micheal had not been found as of the time of this report.

The development has continued to generate anxiety among family members, who are calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to locate the missing woman and ensure the safety of all those connected to the dispute.
