Aiguobasinmwin Movement Backs Palace Initiative on Grassroots Security Network

The Aiguobasinmwin Movement World-Wide has declared its support for the recent Palace directive aimed at strengthening community-based security and grassroots intelligence gathering across communities within the Benin Kingdom.

In a statement issued by the leadership of the movement, the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the directive of the revered Monarch, Omo N'Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba of Benin, which calls on Okaigheles and prominent youth leaders to inaugurate between five and ten disciplined, fearless and law-abiding youths in their respective communities.

According to the movement, the initiative is designed to establish structured community watch and vigilance teams that will serve as early warning channels for suspicious activities and emerging security concerns within local communities.

The newly inaugurated youths are expected to support farmers, traders and residents by providing timely intelligence that could help prevent security breaches and ensure safer environments for economic and social activities.

Under the operational framework, community reports and intelligence are to be communicated through the Okao Noreguae, who will subsequently transmit information to the Palace for onward delivery to relevant security institutions, including the Divisional Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Edo Security Network.

The Aiguobasinmwin Movement emphasized that the initiative remains a peace-driven and community-support programme focused solely on collaboration with established authorities.

The statement further clarified that the programme does not authorise the use of arms, violence, force, or any form of jungle justice, stressing that security efforts must remain within the framework of law and constituted authority.

"Our collective responsibility is to secure our communities through unity, vigilance, lawful conduct and effective collaboration with security agencies," the statement noted.

The statement was signed by the President of the movement, Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture; Assistant Secretary, Mr. Uhunoma Ewere Lucky; and Diaspora Coordinator, Mr. Monday Ohuimumwen, JP.
Observers believe that community-based intelligence gathering and stronger citizen participation continue to play significant roles in addressing security challenges and improving rapid response mechanisms at the grassroots level.

Ologbo Traditional Leadership: Chief Iyase Rejects Purported Installation of Olare-Aja

By Elvis Omoregie  The Okao Nore-Guae overseeing Ologbo, Ehor and Okhuoromi communities in Edo State, Chief Emma Iyase, has warned against what he described as efforts to establish a parallel traditional authority in Ologbo, rejecting the reported installation of Pa Johnson Obubu Itoto as the Olare-Aja of the community. Speaking on the development, Chief Iyase said the installation, reportedly carried out on May 30, 2026, was unknown to Benin customs and traditions and constituted a violation of the recognized traditional authority structure of the Benin Kingdom.
