The Edo State Government has appointed the Chairman of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Festus Alenkhe, as the Acting Managing Director of the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), in a move aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the state-owned media organisation.
The appointment, approved by Governor Monday Okpebholo, follows the redeployment of the immediate past Managing Director of EBS, Suleiman Aledeh, to the Edo State Orientation Agency, where he will serve as the pioneer Director-General.
The development was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, who said Alenkhe would oversee the affairs of the broadcast station pending the appointment of a substantive Managing Director.
According to the statement, the governor's approval forms part of ongoing administrative reforms designed to enhance institutional effectiveness, improve service delivery and reposition critical government agencies for optimal performance.
The government noted that the redeployment and appointment reflect its commitment to strengthening public communication platforms and ensuring that key institutions remain responsive to the information needs of residents.
Alenkhe, a veteran journalist and respected media administrator, is expected to bring his extensive experience in journalism, media management and stakeholder engagement to bear in steering EBS through its next phase of growth and transformation.
His appointment has been viewed in media circles as a recognition of his contributions to the journalism profession and his leadership within the NUJ, where he has championed professional ethics, press freedom and the welfare of media practitioners in the state.
The government also commended Aledeh for his contributions to public broadcasting during his tenure as Managing Director of EBS, expressing confidence that his experience would add value to the newly established Orientation Agency as it seeks to deepen public enlightenment and civic engagement across the state.
Observers say the latest changes underscore the administration's determination to strengthen strategic communication structures and improve the effectiveness of government information dissemination in line with its broader governance objectives.
With Alenkhe now at the helm in an acting capacity, expectations are high that EBS will consolidate on existing gains while advancing professionalism, innovation and public service broadcasting in Edo State.
