Entertainment Stakeholders Back Edo’s Creative Industry Expansion Drive

By Elvis Omoregie, Benin

Edo State’s entertainment and creative industry is set for significant growth following the launch of “Edo To The World,” a statewide music talent discovery and cultural showcase initiative aimed at empowering youths and strengthening the state’s creative economy.

The initiative, spearheaded by media and events strategist Markus Mckane Okoebor, is being organised by Brotherly Love Entertainment Ltd in partnership with the Edo State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.

Stakeholders within the entertainment sector have described the project as a strategic intervention capable of creating economic opportunities for young people while positioning Edo State as an emerging hub for culture, tourism, and talent development.

According to the organisers, the initiative extends beyond entertainment by focusing on talent discovery, mentorship, cultural promotion, and structured exposure for aspiring artistes and creative professionals across the state.

A major highlight of the project is its statewide outreach, with activities expected to cover all 18 local government areas and the three senatorial districts — Edo South, Edo North, and Edo Central — to encourage grassroots participation and inclusiveness.

Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Markus Mckane said Edo State has consistently produced exceptional talents whose potential requires stronger institutional support, wider visibility, and structured development to compete nationally and internationally.

Mckane, who is recognised for his contributions to media, branding, strategic communication, and event management, has handled projects for organisations including 7UP Bottling Company, Ambrose Alli University, and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital through Media Plus Communication, Mark & Me Corporate (Nig.) Ltd., and Brotherly Love Entertainment Ltd.

Industry observers believe the initiative could further stimulate investment in Edo’s entertainment ecosystem, attract visitors, and boost cultural tourism through music, comedy, and other creative performances.

The event is expected to feature prominent entertainers and personalities including I Go Dye, Klint Da Drunk, Prof. Linkin, Gandoki, Edo Pikin, MC Awilo, and Jaytunes, among others.

The grand finale of “Edo To The World” is scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub along Airport Road, Benin City.
