Edo Youth Groups Back Obazee for APC Oredo Reps Ticket
By Elvis Omoregie
A coalition of youth and women groups in Edo State has thrown its weight behind Hon. Osaro Obazee’s aspiration to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Oredo Federal House of Representatives seat, describing him as a loyal party stalwart with deep grassroots appeal.
The coalition, under the umbrella of the Coalition of Edo Youth Groups, made its position known in a press statement issued on Tuesday, insisting that Obazee’s political loyalty, contribution to party development and record in public office make him deserving of the APC ticket.
The groups recalled their role in the emergence of Governor Monday Okpebholo during the 2024 governorship election, noting that Obazee was among the few political leaders who identified with and supported them throughout the campaign period.
According to the statement, Obazee’s long-standing relationship with grassroots supporters and his commitment to Edo cultural values distinguish him as a suitable representative for Oredo Federal Constituency.
“He is a loyal foundation member of the party and a true son of the red soil who consistently promotes our culture, traditions and heritage. Oredo needs a representative who understands our identity and will defend it in Abuja,” the coalition stated.
The groups further argued that denying Obazee the APC ticket would amount to ignoring loyalty and commitment within the party structure.
They also highlighted his performance as former chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, citing road construction, school projects, renovation of health centres, youth empowerment initiatives and improved welfare for council workers as part of his achievements in office.
The coalition described Obazee as “a mobiliser, progressive and bridge builder,” adding that his contributions to the APC and the development of Oredo Federal Constituency deserve recognition.
Signatories to the statement included leaders of several youth and women organisations such as ELIZ United Forum, Teni Foundation, Congress of Professional Women, Edo Youth for Socio-Political Forum, Vanguard for Democracy, Edo Progressive Forum and Women for Women Congress.
The endorsement comes amid growing political consultations and alignments ahead of anticipated APC primaries for the Oredo Federal House of Representatives seat.
