Edo to the World Competition Seeks to Connect Young Talents With Global Opportunities

By Elvis Omoregie

The organisers of the Edo to the World Talent Competition say the initiative is aimed at bridging the gap between raw talent and economic opportunity, while positioning Edo State as a growing hub for creative and entrepreneurial excellence.

Speaking ahead of the programme, the convener, Marcus Makay, said the competition was conceived as a sustainable platform for discovering, grooming, and promoting young talents within and beyond Nigeria.

According to him, the initiative is designed to provide emerging talents with access to mentorship, professional development, industry exposure, and international opportunities capable of transforming their skills into viable careers.

Makay noted that strategic investment in talent development would not only stimulate growth within Nigeria’s entertainment and creative sectors, but also contribute to social stability by productively engaging youths.

“Continuous talent discovery, recruitment, grooming, training, and strategic promotion of young talents both nationally and internationally will significantly reduce criminality and youth restiviness,” he said.

He explained that the competition would serve as a launchpad for youths with exceptional abilities in music, fashion, dance, acting, entrepreneurship, and other creative sectors, while also attracting investors and stakeholders interested in the expanding creative economy.

Makay further stated that the initiative aligns with broader conversations around youth empowerment, job creation, and economic diversification, particularly as Nigeria’s creative industry continues to gain global recognition and commercial value.

Beyond entertainment, he said the project aims to build confidence, leadership capacity, and economic independence among participants through structured training, mentorship, and networking opportunities capable of shaping long-term careers.

Industry stakeholders say initiatives centred on talent development and skills promotion are becoming increasingly important tools for addressing unemployment, youth restiveness, and insecurity across the country.

The organisers expressed optimism that the Edo to the World Talent Competition would evolve into a major platform for talent export, cultural promotion, and economic growth for Edo State and Nigeria at large.
