A member of the House of Representatives representing Oredo Federal Constituency, Esosa Iyawe, has reportedly resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing irreconcilable differences with Monday Okpebholo.
In a resignation letter dated May 6, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Ward 1, Oredo Federal Constituency, Edo State, the lawmaker announced his withdrawal from the party and his decision to discontinue his interest in contesting the 2027 House of Representatives election under the APC platform.
The letter, which surfaced on Wednesday, stated that the decision followed “careful reflection and consideration.”
“I hereby withdraw my expression of interest to contest for the position of House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections and to resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately,” the letter read in part.
Iyawe expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve and for the experiences gained during his membership, but noted that personal and political considerations informed his exit.
He further disclosed plans to align with another political platform identified as the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC), saying the move was consistent with his political convictions and aspirations.
“It is imperative to state that this decision is a result of the irreconcilable difference between me and my Governor, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Governor of Edo State,” the letter added.
The lawmaker requested that his resignation be reflected in both party and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) records, while asking to be relieved of all rights, responsibilities and obligations associated with APC membership.
Efforts to obtain official reaction from the Edo State chapter of the APC were unsuccessful as of press time.
The development is expected to generate fresh political discussions within the ruling party in Edo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
