Billy Osawaru Deserves Re-Election for Stability, Constituency Projects — APC Chieftain
By Elvis Omoregie, Benin
A prominent political leader in Ugu Ward and philanthropist, Charles Eghaghe, has endorsed the return bid of Billy Osawaru for a second term in the House of Representatives, describing the lawmaker as a stabilising force whose legislative engagement and grassroots-driven initiatives have strengthened development across the constituency.
Eghaghe, who serves as Managing Director of EGMENOVIC Investment Nigeria Ltd and Chief Executive Officer of Bridge Builders Career Foundation, said the federal constituency stands to benefit more from continuity in representation, particularly at a time when experience and institutional influence are becoming increasingly critical in attracting federal attention and development opportunities.
Speaking in a statement issued in Benin City, the APC chieftain maintained that effective representation at the National Assembly goes beyond occupying a seat, stressing that it requires legislative competence, strategic relationships and sustained interaction with constituents.
According to him, Osawaru has demonstrated those qualities during his first term and is now better positioned to deliver greater results for Orhionmwon and Uhunmwonde communities.
“The first term of every legislator is usually a period of learning, networking and understanding the workings of the National Assembly. Hon. Billy Osawaru has successfully gone through that process and is now in a stronger position to influence policy discussions, attract federal projects and negotiate better opportunities for the constituency,” he said.
Eghaghe noted that several constituency-based interventions initiated under the lawmaker’s watch, including educational support programmes, healthcare outreach initiatives and infrastructure projects, require continuity to ensure proper completion and sustainability.
He argued that frequent changes in representation often disrupt ongoing projects, weaken institutional relationships and slow down development efforts.
“Development is a continuous process. When projects are abandoned midway because of political changes, the people suffer the consequences. A second term will provide the continuity needed to consolidate existing achievements and expand the scope of development across the constituency,” he added.
The APC leader further commended Osawaru’s advocacy for rural communities, particularly in areas affecting farmers, traders and small-scale business operators who form the backbone of the local economy.
He said the lawmaker’s emphasis on rural roads, agricultural support and economic empowerment reflects a clear understanding of the constituency’s socio-economic realities.
Eghaghe also praised the lawmaker for maintaining close engagement with constituents through regular consultations with traditional rulers, youth bodies, women groups and community stakeholders.
According to him, such accessibility has helped ensure that representation remains people-oriented and responsive to the actual needs of communities.
He further credited Osawaru with promoting political stability within the constituency through reconciliation efforts among party leaders and stakeholders, noting that unity among political actors remains essential for sustainable development.
“Political stability creates room for meaningful development. Hon. Osawaru has consistently encouraged dialogue, inclusion and cooperation among stakeholders, and that has helped reduce unnecessary political tension within the constituency,” he stated.
Reaffirming his support for the lawmaker’s re-election bid, Eghaghe said retaining experienced hands in the National Assembly would strengthen the constituency’s voice at the federal level and guarantee continuity in ongoing development efforts.
“For sustained growth and effective representation, experience, accessibility and trust must be preserved.Hon. Billy Osawaru has built a credible record of legislative engagement, constituency service and grassroots connection, and he deserves the opportunity to consolidate on those achievements through a second term,” he added.
