AAU Dismisses ‘Evacuation Memo’, Assures Students of Campus Safety

By Elvis Omoregie, Benin

The management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has reassured stakeholders that the institution remains safe and fully operational, despite recent security concerns in the host community.

The reassurance follows the circulation of a purported memo allegedly issued by the National Association of Ika Students, calling for the closure or evacuation of the university.

AAU management, however, dismissed the document as false and misleading, describing it as the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to incite panic and destabilise the academic environment.

The university noted that the recognised leadership of the association has distanced itself from the memo, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace and order within the institution.

Management also commended the Edo State Government for its swift intervention in addressing security concerns in Ekpoma and neighbouring communities. It added that the deployment of security agencies and strengthened safety measures have helped stabilise the situation and restore public confidence.

The institution further disclosed that it has intensified internal security by enhancing surveillance, increasing patrol operations and strengthening collaboration with relevant security agencies to safeguard lives and property on campus.

While urging students to remain calm and focused on their academic activities, the management cautioned against the spread of unverified information, stressing that only official communication channels should be relied upon.

The university reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for students, staff and the wider academic community.
