The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the public display of the Preliminary Voters Register (PVR) under its ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, in a move aimed at strengthening transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral process.
In a statement dated April 28, 2026, and issued by its Voter Education and Publicity Department in Benin City, the Commission said the exercise would enable citizens who registered between January and April 2026 to verify their details and report discrepancies.
INEC said the display would take place at its Local Government Area (LGA) offices nationwide, where registrants can file claims or objections as necessary.
The verification window opens on April 29 and closes on May 5, 2026.
According to the Commission, the exercise represents a critical phase in the electoral cycle, providing an opportunity to sanitise the register by correcting errors, removing ineligible entries, and addressing omissions ahead of the publication of the final voters list.
“The exercise is an important step towards ensuring a credible, transparent and inclusive electoral process,” INEC said, urging voters, political parties, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to participate actively.
Analysts note that the initiative aligns with INEC’s broader reform agenda to boost public confidence in elections, particularly as the integrity of the voters register remains central to credible polls.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to maintaining an accurate and reliable voters database, urging eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the claims and objections window to safeguard their voting rights.
