Edo SUBEB suspends teachers’ transfers indefinitely to stabilize academic system

By Elvis Omoregie, Benin

The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has announced the indefinite suspension of teachers’ transfers across the state, citing the need to maintain stability and continuity within its academic system.

In a circular dated April 22, 2026, and addressed to Acting Education Secretaries, the Board stated that the directive takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.

The communication was also copied to head teachers, principals, and other stakeholders within the basic education ecosystem.

According to the Board, the decision was driven by concerns over disruptions to ongoing academic programmes. By halting transfers, SUBEB aims to ensure consistency in teaching delivery and preserve the structure of school operations across the state.

The circular further clarified that all current postings remain valid, and any pending or future requests for transfer will not be processed during the suspension period.

Education administrators and school leaders have been urged to comply fully with the directive as the Board works to strengthen the stability of the basic education sector.

The directive was signed by Amadasun Blessing, Director of Shared Services, on behalf of the Executive Chairman.
