By Elvis Omoregie, Benin
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the 13 wards in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, have reaffirmed their support for a consensus candidate ahead of the party’s April 4, 2026 chairmanship primary election.
The stakeholders endorsed Orobosa Eriamiantoe Christopher as the consensus candidate during a meeting held at the residence of former Deputy Governor, Lucky Imasuen, in Benin City.
Moving the motion for the endorsement, a party leader in the local government, Stanley Ehitan, urged members to set aside personal differences and unite in the interest of the party, stressing that party supremacy must be upheld.
“We must come together as one and support the decision of the leadership. The party remains supreme, and we must respect its position,” he said.
The motion was seconded by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Charity Amayanvbo, who noted that politics naturally accommodates differing opinions but requires collective resolve for progress.
“Politics is about choice, interests, and opinions. While we may disagree, we must align with the decision of the party leadership for the greater good,” she stated.
Also speaking, the Edo South Senatorial leader, Hon. Benson Edosomwan, cautioned against divisive tendencies among party members, urging them to avoid questioning the credibility of aspirants.
“We should not begin to say we do not know this person or that person. This is not a new game; we all understand how the process works,” he said.
Edosomwan further disclosed that Governor Monday Okpebholo was scheduled to meet with all aspirants and key stakeholders, expressing confidence that the outcome would reflect the party’s collective interest.
“The governor is meeting with the aspirants and some leaders. Whatever decision comes out of that meeting, we will abide by it. That is the hallmark of party discipline,” he added.
The endorsement signals a growing push for consensus within the APC in Ovia North East, as party leaders intensify efforts to ensure a smooth and unified primary process.
Those present at the meeting included Edo South Senatorial leader, Hon. Benson Edosomwan; former House of Representatives member, Hon. Isaac Osahon; Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Charity Amayanvbo; Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Hon. Vincent Uwadiae; member representing Ovia North East in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Andrew Uzamere; as well as party executives across the 13 wards, including ward chairmen, among others.
