International Women’s Day: Edo NAWOJ Chair Habiba Sam Advocates Opportunities For Women

The Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Edo State Chapter, Comrade Habiba Sam, has joined the global community in commemorating the International Women's Day 2026, calling for increased investment in women as a pathway to sustainable national development.

In a statement issued to mark the occasion, Sam said the theme of this year’s celebration, “Give To Gain,” highlights the need for deliberate actions that promote women’s empowerment and create opportunities for them to contribute meaningfully to societal growth.

According to her, investing in women through education, economic inclusion and leadership opportunities would not only strengthen families and communities but also accelerate national development.

She commended the resilience, dedication and professionalism of women journalists in Edo State and across Nigeria, noting that they continue to play a vital role in promoting responsible journalism while amplifying the voices and concerns of women in society.

Sam further emphasized that women journalists have remained key advocates for gender equality, social justice and inclusive governance through their work in the me

The NAWOJ Edo chairperson therefore called on governments, private organisations and other stakeholders to implement and support policies and initiatives that promote gender equality, empower women and foster a more inclusive society.

She stressed that sustainable progress can only be achieved when women are given equal opportunities to participate fully in all sectors of the economy and governance.

She congratulated women across the state and the country on the occasion of International Women’s Day, urging them to remain united, resilient and committed to advancing the cause of women and girls in every sphere of life.
