STATEMENT ON THE VIRAL VIDEO AND THE NEED TO SEPARATE GOVERNOR MONDAY OKPEBHOLO FROM THE ISSUE - MrFigo
I have taken time to watch and reflect on the recent press conference organized by some concerned citizens of Edo State in reaction to the viral video where a content creator was seen making inciting remarks directed at a former Governor of the state.
The message of that press conference was in order and well-intentioned. As responsible citizens, we must all condemn any act, word, or publication that promotes violence or threatens the peace of our state. Such behavior does not represent who we are as Edo people.
However, it is equally important to make a clear distinction between the individual who made that video and the Edo State Government led by His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
That video is personal content, produced and circulated by its creator. It should be treated strictly as his personal opinion and action, not as an expression of the governor’s view or that of his administration.
Governor Monday Okpebholo is a man of peace and principle — humble, tolerant, and focused on development. He has never encouraged violence, threats, or any act capable of endangering lives. His leadership so far has been defined by dialogue, inclusiveness, and respect for all, regardless of political affiliation.
I therefore urge the public and the media to handle the matter with fairness and clarity. The content creator should take responsibility for his words, while the name of the governor and his government should not be unfairly dragged into an issue they know nothing about.
Edo is a peaceful state, and it is our collective duty to keep it that way.
