In order to tackle unemployment and end youth restiveness, member representing Orhionmwon South constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly, Bright Iyamu, has revealed how he empowered 300 youths with Point of Sale (POS) machines, chairs, tables and cash as starter-packs.
He disclosed this during a media chat with the BusinessDay, Benin Correspondent.
Iyamu said besides the distribution of the POS machines, at Ugbo-Konero community, 50 persons were also empowered with N100,000 each, to shore up their businesses.
The lawmaker said the gesture was part of his way of making life meaningful for members of his constituency, knowing that the state government cannot provide jobs for its teeming youths alone.
While stating the importance of education to the development of any given society, he said he has built a block of three classrooms in Ogboko, Niro and renovated another block of six classrooms in Adana Primary School just as he said he assisted in the enrollment of 300 students in JAMB.
He maintained that more than 300 street lights have been installed and 10 boreholes sunk within the constituency.
Iyamu pointed out that the issue of insecurity in the community has also been addressed drastically through the provision of logistics to the Edo State Security Network.
"Recently, I empowered the Edo State Security Network. The new integrated one. I empowered them with a patrol van.
"I empowered them with a lot of security architectures to enable them carry out their duties easily.
"You know, it's not an easy thing, the issue of insecurity in Nigeria, not just to states. Mostly the one that concerns the Fulani herdsmen is becoming unbearable in our different local governments.
"So, I also contributed my quota to make sure my people, we are all secured. So, as at today, I can tell you that insecurity in Orhionmwon South is drastically reducing. So, that is a good job for me", Iyamu said.
He said with that, farmers can now go to their farms without fear of being kidnapped by militia herdsmen.
He further appealed to the youths to live within their means and be contented with what they have instead of trying to live above their means.
