Breaking: Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu appoints UBTH CMD to succeed Prof Obaseki

Professor Idia Ize-Iyamu has been appointed by the federal government as the substantive Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

The appointment was announced by the federal government in Abuja on Friday.

The professor of orthodontics will succeed Professor Darlington Obaseki, whose tenure comes to an end on August 17th, 2025.

Until her appointment, Prof Idia Ize-Iyamu is the current Dean, Faculty of Dentistry University of Benin (UNIBEN) and the first female CMD of the tertiary health institution.

Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu attended Corona Nursery School, Apapa from 1971-1973, Corona Primary School, Apapa Lagos, from 1974-1978, Holy child College, Obalende Lagos, 1979-1985, Queens College, Yaba Lagos, 1985-1986, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, 1986- 1992, West African College of surgeons 1997- 2004.

She is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. She also attended Oxford University United Kingdom on a Commonwealth Medical Fellowship in 2016.

Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu had also worked with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, 1992-1993.

Prof. (Mrs) Idia Ize-Iyamu is happily married to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and they are blessed with children.
