Edo University Launches Mandatory One Year Industrial Training

The management of Edo State University, Uzairue, has launched a mandatory one year industrial training for students in the departments of Chemical  and Mechanical Engineering, with a special focus on acquiring technical skills in the conversion of fuel vehicles to gas.

Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dawood O. Egbefo who disclosed this during the flag off of the initiative, said the move was geared to reduce the burden of fuel cost, increased access to affordable transportation, job creation and economic growth.

Prof. Egbefo also stated that it  would reduce carbon emissions, alleviate poverty, which according to him, aligns with the vision of the visitor to the University and Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

He noted that the development was in partnership with the  Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO), the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and  the Edo State Ministry of Mining and Energy. 

The VC stressed: "we are confident that this strategic partnership will yield lasting benefits for our communities, the nation, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.

"The initiative demonstrates the university's commitment to innovation, social responsibility, collaboration with government and industry partners.

"This and many more innovations we offer, is why Edo university is the best destination for students striving for academic excellence.

"We don't go on strike. The university is open to everyone  for academic pursuit.  Our needs and expectations are met before we request," he added.

Stop proposed Caretaker Committee inauguration, Edo assembly tells NLC president

By  Elvis Omoregie, Benin  Edo State House of Assembly yesterday passed a resolution calling on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, to shelve the proposed leadership change of the present NLC Exco in Edo State.  The resolution which a motion raised by the Majority leader, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu following reports of a planned inauguration of a caretaker committee in the state. Presenting the motion Hon. Ologbo Traditional Leadership: Chief Iyase Rejects Purported Installation of Olare-Aja

By Elvis Omoregie  The Okao Nore-Guae overseeing Ologbo, Ehor and Okhuoromi communities in Edo State, Chief Emma Iyase, has warned against what he described as efforts to establish a parallel traditional authority in Ologbo, rejecting the reported installation of Pa Johnson Obubu Itoto as the Olare-Aja of the community. Speaking on the development, Chief Iyase said the installation, reportedly carried out on May 30, 2026, was unknown to Benin customs and traditions and constituted a violation of the recognized traditional authority structure of the Benin Kingdom.
