Fire Guts Section Of Popular Ekiosa Market In Benin

Goods worth billions of naira were yesterday destroyed in early the morning fire that gutted a building at a section of Ekiosa market by Third junction, Edo state.
It was gathered that the fire that started between 1:30am and 2am razed down 20 shop housings with various items in the building.
One of the victims, Comrade Sani Yakubu, who is also the caretaker of the building said billions of naira were lost in the fire by traders.
"The fire started between 1:30am and 2:am and we don't know the cause of the fire. 20 shops were affected and all the goods were destroyed"
He said he was at home when they called him that the building was engulfed in fire, adding that they could not savage their goods as the whole shops were on flame.
"Traders and Bureau De change operators have shops here. Aside the goods, dollars, Euro and other international currencies as well as local currency burnt to ashes in the fire.
"Nobody takes anything out of their shops, provisions, electronic gadgets, generators among others including dollars and Euros were destroyed. I can say billions of naira lost to fire. Our hope is in God and we believe it is an act of God"
Another trader, Ugochinyere Francis lamented that she lost over a million in the fire that razed the shops.
"We couldn't do anything when we came because the flame was much that no one could go near the fire. I lost over a million naira but i don't want to cry and I know God will take control"

She appealed to the government to come their aid as their means of livelihood have been destroyed.
Others who also spoke on the development however called on the state government to assist them in starting a new life.
