Edo 2024: LP Chieftain Dr. Okundaye Kicks Against Parallel Primaries, Says Not Healthy For Democracy Congratulates Akpata On Victory

 By Elvis Omoregie, Benin

A Chieftain of the Labour Party in Edo State, Dr Kingsley Okundaye has described  the purported parallel primary of the lamidi Apapa faction as unnecessary saying the unity of the party at this point in time is more sacrosanct than attempting to destroy the party.

The Dr Okundaye who congratulated the former (NBA) National President, Olumide Akpata, as the party's candidate said his coming will be changing the narrative of the party which the obedient movement had always wanted and will give the party an edge in winning the governorship  election slated for 21 September 2024.

In a chat with newsmen in Benin City, Dr Okundaye said that competence and capacity stands out the party's candidate to win the election.

He said that the party has in the last few years concerned itself with deepening democracy by emphasizing competency and capacity over rotation and other considerations

According to him, "Akpata has come to realize that the election is about people and the people must drive the process and the process will go a long way to re-establish  LP's commitment to democracy.

"Akpata has come to change the old order; Akpata will be a game changer in the election; he has built enough trust among the people by identifying with the dreams and aspirations of the people."

Dr Okundaye disclosed that the 'Obedient' Movement would continue to be a force in ensuring that LP wins elections in the state

He said that the Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC) has commenced the process of exploring all avenues to address the internal wranglings in the party.

LPPMC is a congregation of stakeholders of LP, including elected party men and women in government at the state and national levels, members of the Obedient Support Group from across the 36 of the federation and Abuja who are committed to strengthening LP's stronghold and enlarging its support base.
