Foundation FC. Emerge winners of maiden Hon. Iyawe's football tourney ... competition to uncover talents- organiser

Foundation FC has emerged winner of the 2023 final of Hon. Esosa Iyawe football tournament played at the University of Benin (Uniben) sports complex in Edo State.

The team emerged victorious after  defeating Obidient FC by 2-0, to cart home the N1 million star prize.

The runners up, Obidient FC and the third placed team ,United Stars went home  with #500,000 and #200,000, while other participating teams received a consolation cash prize of #20,000 each.

40 teams participated in the tourney which begum on November 11,   organized by Engr. Esosa Iyawe, the member representing Oredo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.

Hon. Iyawe while presenting the trophy and cash prize to  Foundation FC expressed satisfaction with the professionalism exhibited by all the participated teams during the competition.

He said: "the tourney is geared to uncover football talents in the constituency and nurture their carrier international.

"And if we can do it successfully, we are definitely be empowering families and communities in Oredo," Iyawe stated.

Stop proposed Caretaker Committee inauguration, Edo assembly tells NLC president

By  Elvis Omoregie, Benin  Edo State House of Assembly yesterday passed a resolution calling on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, to shelve the proposed leadership change of the present NLC Exco in Edo State.  The resolution which a motion raised by the Majority leader, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu following reports of a planned inauguration of a caretaker committee in the state. Presenting the motion Hon. Ologbo Traditional Leadership: Chief Iyase Rejects Purported Installation of Olare-Aja

By Elvis Omoregie  The Okao Nore-Guae overseeing Ologbo, Ehor and Okhuoromi communities in Edo State, Chief Emma Iyase, has warned against what he described as efforts to establish a parallel traditional authority in Ologbo, rejecting the reported installation of Pa Johnson Obubu Itoto as the Olare-Aja of the community. Speaking on the development, Chief Iyase said the installation, reportedly carried out on May 30, 2026, was unknown to Benin customs and traditions and constituted a violation of the recognized traditional authority structure of the Benin Kingdom.
