By Elvis Omoregie
Benin residents have continued to pour in encomium and commendations on the Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, for extending the Edo City Transport Service Limited (ECTS), buses for free for another period of three months.
The residents said governor Obaseki, with the extension of the free buses, has once again demonstrated his love and passion for the good people of Edo state.
Some of the residents who spoke to journalists, said even though, they're yet to benefit from the governor's gesture but they are happy seeing people enjoying the free buses services on daily basis.
One of the residents, Madam Felicia Ogiemwonyi, who lives around Aduwawa-Eyean axis in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state, commended the state governor for a job well done, saying Edo people will remain forever grateful for this.
In her words"I want to commend, and salute the governor of Edo State, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki for extending the free (ECTS) buses again for another period of three months, "though I haven't been able to use the free buses since the commencement almost four months ago but I'm happy other people are using it, I'm very happy about it.
"I have heard so much from people who have been using it. I think I'm impressed for what they have been saying, I want to say a big thank you to the governor for putting the people first for having them at heart", Ogiemwonyi said.
Another respondent, Mrs Mary Uwaje, said she can't speak good in English but will speak pidgin. "I no like Obaseki, but for this one, I really like am well well. I dey happy anytime I entered the motor from Ramat park to Ring road, I dey pray for am she said," Uwaje said.
Recall that Edo State governor, in September 2023, flagged off the free bus service for passengers on all routes operated by the state-owned Edo City Transport Limited (ECTS), with the pledge that his government will sustain efforts to reduce the hardship inflicted on the people by the subsidy removal, ensuring improved wellbeing and welfare for the people.
The scheme, is aimed at cushioning the effect of the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government on the people of the state.
