Oba Of Benin 7th Coronation Anniversary: Group Gives Free Medical Service To Edo Residents

The Palace of the Oba of Benin, His ROYAL MAJESTY,
OMO N'OBA N'EDO UKU, AKPOLOKPOLO, EWUARE II, CFR, OBA OF BENIN, was yesterday filled to capacity with people suffering from different ailments coming to receive a two-day free Medical Service put together by a group known as Benin Doctors Forum Worldwide (BDFW), and in collaboration with Edo National Voice (ENV).

The two days medical outreach which is opened for all those that live within the state and outside Edo State is taking place at the palace of the Oba of Benin.  

Speaking with newsmen on the essence of the free medical exercise, President Benin Doctors Forum Worldwide, (BDFW) Doctor Ovenseri Ogbeide Eghosasere, said the medical outreach was being organized in honour of the revered Benin monarch to mark his seventh Coronation anniversary.

Dr Ogbeide stated that the free medical services was going to be a complete total healthcare, which includes Eyes condition, Dental condition, Mental condition, free surgerys for women with Fibroid Mehotomy men with Prostate condition and general check up.

"We have noticed there's a need, an health need for our people and we want to also play our parts in other for people to meet up to the needs," Dr. Ogbeide said.

He said the healthcare is a total healthcare that encompasses both the elderly to the young and added that they also have a programme that cares for the younger ones, "just now, we just booked a patient who's circumcision was not properly done right. So, tomorrow we're going to be correcting that surgery for the 3 year old baby. So, it cuts across all ages. So, there's no age to this programme," he said".

Also speaking, the president Edo National Voice (ENV), Iyamu Osaro Culture, said the project was done in conjunction with the Benin Doctors Forum Worldwide in commemoration of the seventh anniversary of the Oba of Benin Kingdom.

Iyamu said the healthcare programme varies from different sickness, Malaria, Eye problem, Tooth pain, and many more.

"As we speak those who are facing health challenges are already been diagnosed. Some are already been treated while some are still awaiting medical response.

"As a way of adding value and creating impact to the seventh coronation anniversary of the great Oba of Benin, we thought it wise to add another colour to the coronation and we also observed year in year out, whenever our Oba is celebrating either birthday or coronation, such programme is not being embedded in the entire programme of the palace hence the reason".

Some of the patients who spoke to journalists after receiving medical treatment were full of praises to the Oba and the organizers of the medical outreach for a job well done. The seventh Coronation comes up on Friday 20th October, 2023.

Stop proposed Caretaker Committee inauguration, Edo assembly tells NLC president

By  Elvis Omoregie, Benin  Edo State House of Assembly yesterday passed a resolution calling on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, to shelve the proposed leadership change of the present NLC Exco in Edo State.  The resolution which a motion raised by the Majority leader, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu following reports of a planned inauguration of a caretaker committee in the state. Presenting the motion Hon. Ologbo Traditional Leadership: Chief Iyase Rejects Purported Installation of Olare-Aja

By Elvis Omoregie  The Okao Nore-Guae overseeing Ologbo, Ehor and Okhuoromi communities in Edo State, Chief Emma Iyase, has warned against what he described as efforts to establish a parallel traditional authority in Ologbo, rejecting the reported installation of Pa Johnson Obubu Itoto as the Olare-Aja of the community. Speaking on the development, Chief Iyase said the installation, reportedly carried out on May 30, 2026, was unknown to Benin customs and traditions and constituted a violation of the recognized traditional authority structure of the Benin Kingdom.
