Edo 2024: Only aspirants with clean moral, academic records to contest Apc primaries
By Elvis Omoregie
A former minority whip of the Federal House of Representatives, Dr. Samson Osagie has charged the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State to ensure that only aspirants with clean moral or academic records are cleared to participate in its governorship primaries.
He said any aspirant with criminal or doubtful credentials should be advised to withdraw from the 2024 guber race.
The ex-lawmaker who stated this at the party's Political Conference tagged, "Edo2024: A must win for APC" said his submission will help the APC win the 2024 Governorship elections in the State.
The conference was powered by the Pius Alile Coalition Initiative in partnership with the APC which was held in Benin City on Friday.
Continuing, Osagie also said, "The candidate of the party that will eventually emerge will need to have the capacity to mobilize huge funds.
"This is because, no matter how wealthy a candidate may be, he alone cannot fund an election of the magnitude we are preparing for.
"In 2020, we were lucky to have successful businessmen who supported the party. Even though we lost that election,
"We all know that a major cause of that defeat was the internal sabotage by most of the governors and leaders of the party, particularly at the national level," he added.
On his part, convener of the conference, Mr. Pius Alile berated governor Godwin Obaseki for abandoning infrastructure development and urged for political mobilization to ensure APC retake the State in 2024.
Alile added that the infrastructures built by ex-governor Adams Oshiomhole-led APC government is a testimony of what the party represents in Edo.
